Choosing a perfume
What if the fragrance isn't for you?
The diagnostic works well when you choose for yourself. For someone else, it's still a gamble. Le Cadeau turns this on its head: five sealed samples and a gift card. The person wears them for a whole day, on their skin, then chooses their 30 ml bottle.
Before you decide
How do you choose a perfume without being able to smell it?
+
You can't smell a perfume through a screen, so at Nolença, we choose differently, then we verify.
First, we let ourselves be guided by the story. Each perfume tells a scene, and each description details the notes that compose it. Choose the one that calls to you, just as you would choose a book by its first lines.
How long does it take to judge a perfume?
+
At least a few hours. Top notes evaporate in ten minutes, heart notes settle after half an hour, and base notes only reveal themselves after several hours on the skin. A perfume smelled for three minutes on a paper strip tells you almost nothing.
What is an olfactory family?
+
This is the main family a fragrance belongs to: floral, woody, gourmand, chypre, oriental. It provides an idea of the general character, not the specific details. Our five perfumes cover five different families, which helps you quickly find your bearings.
Does a perfume smell the same on everyone?
+
No. Skin's heat, pH, and hydration affect evaporation, and therefore, sillage. This is the main reason why we recommend wearing the sample before opening the bottle.
