Layering two fragrances: why it works

Layering two fragrances is not an artifice: it's the simplest way to achieve a signature scent that no one else wears.

Solid perfume, alcohol-free, clings to the skin and slows down evaporation. Eau de parfum, alcoholic and 15% concentrated, projects the fragrance. Applied first, the balm acts as a fixative for the eau de parfum applied over it: the duo lasts longer than each used alone, and the base note of the solid colors the base of the eau de parfum.

The process is simple. A dab of solid perfume applied with a finger to pulse points — wrists, neck hollow, inner elbow. Then one to two sprays of eau de parfum in the same spot, without rubbing. You can also separate them: solid on the wrists, eau de parfum on clothes, for a more discreet sillage.

Three solid perfumes and five eaux de parfum offer fifteen combinations. We have named five that we particularly like, but there is no obligation to follow them — the configurator above allows you to create all fifteen.

In what order should I apply the two perfumes?

The solid first, the eau de parfum second. The alcohol-free balm clings to the skin and slows down the evaporation of the eau de parfum applied on top. Apply a small amount of the solid to your pulse points, then spray the eau de parfum on the same spot without rubbing.

Does any association work?

All fifteen work, but they don't tell the same story. A solid vanilla softens and rounds; sandalwood brings woodiness and depth; orange blossom brightens. Our five favorite combinations are a good starting point if you're unsure.

Can solid perfume be worn on its own?

Absolutely. Alcohol-free, it slips into a pocket and can be reapplied throughout the day. Each solid has its own page if you prefer to purchase it alone.
